At Skin Spa Medical, we know that acne does not discriminate. It appears on people of all ages, ethnicities, and skin types. But, just because acne is universal doesn’t mean that it isn’t treatable. The key to containing and eliminating acne is understanding what triggers it and taking the proper steps to control it.
Located in Wellesley Hills, MA, Skin Spa Medical is dedicated to helping our patients treat both active acne and its aftereffects. For more information about our practice or any of the treatments we offer, contact us today.
How Does it Work?
Acne doesn’t begin on the surface of the skin; it starts deep within hair follicles and oil glands. It can be triggered by a number of factors, including:
While what triggers acne is a little different in everyone, this trigger usually results in an increase in oil production. As oil begins to build up in the pores, it causes dead skin cells at the surface of the skin to clump together, plugging pores and hair follicles. This clogging of pores results in mild acne. If left untreated, a mild case can develop into a moderate or severe one, where lesions, pustules, blackheads, and whiteheads become more abundant and painful.
Once you have acne, simply washing your face with soap and water usually isn’t enough to clear your pores and repair your skin. The most effective treatments are designed to dissolve oil and exfoliate dead skin cells, while moisturizing and protecting the skin.
What are my Treatment Options?
At Skin Spa Medical, we offer our patients a wide variety of effective treatment options that can help give them the skin they’ve always wanted. These include both in-office and at-home treatments.
Our in-office therapies are primarily made up of chemical peels, and include the:
- Gly Peel 33%. This dissolves build-up, exfoliates epidermal cells, and smoothes out uneven texture.
- Isomer Peel. This peel allows for deep dermal exfoliation, unclogging pores and killing bacteria. It can successfully treat acne at all stages, reduce pore size, correct hyperpigmentation, and even improve the appearance of some fine lines and wrinkles.
- Zyme Peel. This treatment dissolves cellular build-up while firming, toning, and hydrating the skin. It can also be used to refine skin texture.
In addition to in-office treatments, we offer a number of at-home solutions for continued skincare treatment. Based on your specific skin type, budget, acne stage, and cell maturity, we can devise an accurate at-home skin care plan that best meets your needs.
